How To Use the True Match Hyaluronic Tinted Serum On Oily Skin

Look dewy, not greasy.

Glistening, glowing skin is always in, but for those with oily skin like mine, there’s a fine line between dewy and just plain greasy. For this reason, I’ve always avoided products containing serums out of fear that they’d feel thick and look slick on my already oily complexion. That is until I came across the L’Oréal Paris True Match Hyaluronic Tinted Serum. The lightweight skin care-meets-makeup hybrid tinted serum keeps skineven oily skinlooking fresh and radiant all day when paired with two secret weapons. Ahead, I’m breaking down what oily skin types need to know to keep a soft, yet matte look while they cozy up to this skin tint year-round .

What Is The L’Oréal Paris True Match Hyaluronic Tinted Serum

Tinted serum is a sheer, buildable alternative to other complexion products, including traditional foundation, tinted moisturizers, BB creams and CC creams. This formula, infused with hyaluronic acid (the first of its kind with this sweet spot, one percent dose) offers lightweight coverage — thanks to luminous mineral pigments — that lets your natural skin shine through. If you’re looking for a low-maintenance product that serves as both skin care and makeup, this tinted serum is a must-try. It doesn’t settle into fine lines or pores and makes the skin look smooth, plump and radiant without causing greasiness in the T-zone area.

How to Use the L’Oréal Paris True Match Hyaluronic Tinted Serum on Oily Skin

Because the tinted serum is super hydrating and provides buildable coverage without leaving behind a shiny finish, this is the perfect tinted serum option for oily skin types. To find out how to apply it for optimal results, follow these steps.

Step #1. Prep and Prime

The key to ensuring that the tinted serum stays put on my oily skin is the way in which I prep and set it. When it comes to priming the skin, I recommend looking for a primer that helps to eliminate oil, shine and makeup slippage. In my experience, I’ve found that opting for a gel primer, like the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro Matte Lock Makeup Primer, instead of a cream one prevents this serum from looking oily throughout the day. On clean skin, smooth a few pea-sized dots of this primer onto your face and watch as your skin becomes a soft, matte canvas for makeup.

Step #2. Warm and Pat

Although the tinted serum is, well, a serum, I like to treat it like the rest of my usual complexion products. I add a few drops of the tinted serum into my hands and rub my palms together to warm it up. Once warmed, I apply the tinted serum to my face using either my fingers or a makeup blender, gently working from the center of my face outward in circular motions. Then, I use a fluffy brush to buff out any remaining product for even, lightweight coverage. I find that when I apply the warmed up serum with my fingers, my skin absorbs the hyaluronic acid easier and results in that dewy — not greasy — finish.

Step #3. Set

Now, for the most important step. After I've finished applying the rest of my makeup, I reach for a shine-minimizing powder, like the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro Sweep & Lock Loose Face Setting Powder or the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Fresh Wear 24H Foundation in a Powder. As anyone with oily skin knows, this is a step you don’t want to skip no matter the product. Using a powder brush, I dust the powder onto my face, applying a little extra to the areas where I’m especially oily (read: T-zone, nose and chin.) Then, I toss it into my purse for touch ups throughout the day.
