Innovative hair coloring less messy& softer hair

It’s hard to change behavior so it took me a while to try it. My first use was a bit challenging, but now I got the technique in place, I want to use this forever. Living in city apartment, no mess of hair coloring. Covered roots well (in my second use I was more precise) and also my hair feels so much softer. For roots I use 1 cartouche twice. Price higher than regular store hair color, but it is an innovative product and less messy leaving my hair soft after coloring. No drips.

Cartridge is not multi-use?

Is there ANYONE out there that has re-used a cartridge? I have used 3 cartridges now for root touch-up. When I insert the (used) cartridge, the device tells me that the cartridge is more than half full. But when I start it, only the white developer comes out, no color. Same thing happened 3 times with 3 different cartridges, However, if I use a NEW, UNUSED cartridge, it works like it should. Not sure if the level indicator lights don‘t work as described, or the color dries up once seal is opened. Anyone else having this issue?
Also I have spent a long time on the phone with customer service. I got variable answers that did not help.

Great in theory but cartridges can be defective

Device wouldn’t dispense the actual die. Tried for several minutes and all that came out was the developer, color never mixed or dispensed. Returned the defective to target for another one and will report back on whether this one actually works. Make sure you save your receipt

0/5 – Completely useless for gray coverage

I really wanted to like the L’Oréal Color Sonic and this was a gift for my birthday, but this product is absolutely useless when it comes to covering gray hair.
The device itself might be a good idea and the technology behind the applicator seems promising, but the hair color cartridges simply do not work. They do not cover gray hair at all.
I tried this twice to make sure it wasn’t user error.
• First, I used shade 5G.
• Then I gave it a second chance and tried shade 5.
The results were exactly the same both times: less than 10% gray coverage — honestly, probably not even 5%. It looks as if I applied nothing at all.
I’m attaching photos so you can clearly see the results. My gray hair is still completely visible, unchanged, and uncovered. This product did absolutely nothing.
For the price and the hype, this is extremely disappointing. A good machine means nothing if the color itself doesn’t work. I would not recommend this product to anyone, especially if gray coverage is your goal.

Cool idea, almost zero white coverage

Light ash brown does not come close to covering white hairs. I saturated, waited 40 min, and it’s like I never did it. So so disappointed as the idea is brilliant and it was easy to use the device, so I took the towel off my head and , sigh. It’s supposed to be a full coverage product!!

The device is great but the expensive “permanent color’ is not permanent. It fades away on each wash, leaving the grey hair looking white/reddish. Money into the drain…

I love this product! Well, I did lead it under Jacques Playe for 2 years too, so I may be biased. However, I believe in this product and hope L'Oreal continues to build out more colors of cartridges. Great job! (And thank you Julien for giving me a heads up!)

Not yet perfected. Too expensive

I really wanted to like the Colorsonic, but it is really more trouble than it is worth. First of all, it is very difficult to get the cleaning cartridge out of the wand. You will break several fingernails doing so. Secondly, it needs a serious learning curve for usage. The videos are not clear. BUT once the wand starts working, it is terrific and spreads the color in a way one cannot do with regular home color. NOW, once you find a color cartridge that works for you, do not believe that this $29.95 cartridge will give you 3 applications. It MAY give you almost two but surely NOT THREE! Luckily, i had some regular dye in my cabinet and had to add it to my SECOND use of the cartridge. I may purchase a cartridge once more, but if it empties so quickly, I may just have learned my lesson and not use it until the price comes down. It is NOT true that you can get 3 applications. I have normal sort of straight hair just touching my shoulders and it gets used up quickly. I think it is a genius IDEA, but I would not waste my money until the prices come down and the technology is better. Caveat Emptor! Conditioner is drying to your hair too, not usual for first color.

Never Worked!

Bought new for my wife for Christmas but never got device to work. Just tried to use on 2/4/2025. Used two color cartridges and it would never discharge color during initial test! Now I am out $200.

Frustrated.

TThe Colorsonic is the fastest way to color your hair! My problem comes in with keeping the device in the appropriate position while doing the back of my head. It feels like I have all of the dispensing tips racking over the roots. Yet upon examination it's obvious that they have been at an angle and I have deposited color on the surface versus the roots. I have gone through much more of this expensive dye trying to correct it. I can't be the only on to have this isssue.

Not for gray hair

I was excited to get this for Christman. I really like the colorsonic tool but the color that comes with it does not cover gray hair. I have used twice and both times had to recolor it. Disappointing!

I am hooked... love it

Was so scared to try this.. I have my at home hair dying to a science.. so when my husband gave this to me I really didn't have the heart to tell him thanks but no thanks, plus he purchase the cartridge medium golden brown.. so after I few videos I decided to try it. I wanted it to blend and cover my roots and grey new growth but not do what most box dye do leave it one dimension. I followed the instructions but did not rub it through all the hair. Ran the machine from roots to end without rubbing it through with my hands. I did rub at temple when the grey always shows first. And I love it. Couldn't be happier. So for me I get another use out the cartridge which is even better.. I am hooked

It doesn’t seem to dispense very well doesn’t cover grays very well! It says you get more than one application per tube not in my case! And I have sort hair!

Quick, neat. Just didn’t work for my grey roots.

Third cartridge. First one - no grey cover. Sure I did something wrong, I bought a second one. It seemed to mute the grey - in places. Second guessed myself that maybe I had jumped the gun when I immediately saw the green light and, perhaps, hadn’t waited the full 20 seconds, so I bought a third. Still not covering the gray. Called the number on the instruction sheet. Was advised that a
few people didn’t get grey coverage and that maybe I needed box color. I thought grey coverage was 100% guaranteed. Coupon, maybe? Then I asked rhe lady if it was normal for the device to respond to pressing the on/off intermittently and she indicated that was not unusual - ???
Since I bought it at target and through some fluke, they did not charge me and I called them and informed them and then they just said forget it and just keep it as a gift, I couldn’t really return it to Target. I’m left believing that the 100% can’t be guaranteed, but still not sure if the intermittent response of the device is not the problem. Disappointed.

Waste of money & ruined my hair color- 0/10

First off the price for the amount of product you get or is not worth it. Secondly the color payoff is absolutely nowhere near any of the color shades on the boxes, plus the fact you have to buy a $135 brush to even use this product is a scam. Absolutely would not recommend, please save your money & buy literally anything else, the $12 box dye is better than this.

Needs improvement

My second cartridge and the device is only dispensing the developer. It is not working properly.
My first cartridge also wasn’t mixing properly, and all of the product didn’t get used.

Disappointing

I see L’Oreal’s response to negative reviews is to call their help line. Please be aware I did this twice and it was very lengthy and completely unproductive. The representative clearly had no product knowledge and was giving me instructions contrary to the printed ones that come with the device. In my experience there is insufficient coverage for greys (I left the color on for 45 minutes) and the cartridges are not reusable (even though device indicates cartridge is more than half full). I’d pay a multiple of what the price is if the device worked well! Hope somebody makes an excellent version of this, it’s a v good idea not executed well :(

Game changer and beautiful results

[Employee of loreal] I use the shade 6, Light Brown, and what a game changer. Super fast to apply, clean, easy, especially to reach the back of my hair and without the need of a mirror. What I do though, I use my fingers for the front to make sure I covered all the little gray hair by my ears and temples. I do that regardless with any products. I also can re-use it, as soon as I see some grays growing...I don't have to wait to do a spot application. I love the results, not too dark, not too light, and super shiny.

Game changer

Game changer! Made the application super fast and there was very little mess. I used shade 4 for a root touch-up and went through about half of the cartridge, but I can tell I used too much formula the first time! Colored again today and only needed 1/4th so I still have a bit left for my next coloration. The color looks very nice and blends well

Amazing, easy and fast

This is amazing! First time using it, and it was super easy, quick and very little to no mess... very happy with the results! specially because I have a lot of grays and hate to waste too much time coloring my hair every 3 weeks, but now this is going to be easy and much faster... The only downside I can say is I almost emptied the cartridge in my first use, I was expecting to use it at least 2 times, but I must say I have a LOT of hair... maybe I used too much, will try a little less next time

I loved how easy and mess free is to color my hair now. I applied in less than 5minutes and i still have half of a cartridge left! It has been 3 weeks and my color is lasting so well.... so brilliant and with great gray coverage. I loved the little box it comes with... it fits perfectly under my sink. I will for sure get another cartridge soon!

I am so happy with this product. It is so easy to use. I purchased shade 4, beautiful color and covers all my grays.

Color lasted me a couple of days

Easy application but it literally started fading two days after application. Now one week later I have total grey roots. Pricey to have to apply weekly!!!

For resistant gray, we recommend extending your timing for an additional 5-10 minutes.

Easy to Use…..

My first time using the colorsonic. It’s best to watch a video before using. I tried to remove the label and cardboard wrapped around cartridge🤦🏻♀️. Then before taking off the whole label, I realized it’s not to be removed. All good after. The color did drip down on my face but came off easily. What amazed me was that the top I had on, got color on it, however it washed right out!! Didn’t wash out of my hair, on third wash. I doubt if I’ll get three root touch up, will be lucky to get two. Expensive at $29, still less than salon.
