Peacock Eye Makeup is the Latest Colorful Makeup Trend

The latest on the scene is the peacock eye makeup look, which involves blending together beautiful shades of blues, purples, and greens to create a look resembling—you guessed it—the colors that make up a peacock’s feather. WHAT IS PEACOCK EYE MAKEUP?

Just like its name implies, peacock eye makeup is inspired by peacocks—their feathers, specifically. Imagine eye shadow in deep shades of blue and purple with dark green accents. And, just as the feathers of different peacocks have slight variations, the peacock eye makeup look does, too. Mixing teals, sea blues, emerald greens, majestic purples, and even hints of neon green—it can all be part of the peacock eye makeup look. HOW TO CREATE A PEACOCK EYE MAKEUP LOOK

As we mentioned, there are slightly different variations of the exact colors on peacock’s feathers, but the general color scheme involves blues and purples with hints of green. So, our peacock eye makeup tutorial will follow this same color palette. This eye makeup trend is a dramatic one, so it involves more than just a few steps. Still, if you love having fun with your makeup as much as we do, trying it out for yourself is an absolute must! Here’s how to get the look.

STEP 1: PRIME YOUR LIDS

If you’re putting the time and effort in to create a perfect peacock eye, you’ll surely want it to last for as long as possible. Apply an eye shadow primer onto your entire upper eyelid, then you can move right along.

STEP 2: LAY DOWN YOUR BASE

Once you’ve primed, you’re ready to apply your color. Using a small eyeshadow brush, apply a dusting of the L'Oréal Paris Infallible 24HR Eye Shadow in Perpetual Purple onto your entire eyelid, extending upward all the way to your brow bone—this is a dramatic look, after all. Then, grab a tapered eyeshadow brush and apply the same shade along your lower lash line.  

STEP 3: APPLY THE ACCENT SHADE

Next, you’ll apply a second, slightly darker shade of purple to create a two-toned eye shadow look. Using a small eyeshadow brush, apply the L'Oréal Paris Infallible 24HR Eye Shadow in Purple Priority onto the outer corner of your upper eyelid. This time, don’t extend the shadow upward, keep it concentrated on your lid.  

STEP 4: APPLY BLUE HUES

Once you have your two-toned purple eye shadow look in place, it’s time to add the accent colors. Grab the L'Oréal Paris Colour Riche Pocket Palette Eye Shadow in Avant Garde Azure, which has all the blue hues you’ll need for this look. Start by using the blue shade in the upper right corner of the palette, dusting a light coating onto the middle of your upper eyelid. Keep your application light, you still want to have some purple poking out underneath. Then, using your tapered eye shadow brush, smudge the bright blue shade from the palette’s lower left corner onto the outer corner of your lower lash line, layering it partially overtop of the purple you applied there earlier.

STEP 5: APPLY MASCARA

After all that colorful eye shadow work, you’ll be glad to know you can skip the eyeliner on this one. You wouldn’t want to cover up that gorgeous eye shadow you just applied, now would you? No way! Instead, simply finish off by sweeping on a few coats of your favorite black mascara.
