10 Nostalgia-Inducing Makeup Looks from the 2000s

octubre 04, 2019

If there’s one makeup trend we’ll always be a fan of, it’s taking cues from the past. From ‘80s makeup to ‘90s makeup, blast-from-the-past makeup looks are no stranger to the beauty world. The next throwback makeup trend that is sure to hit you in your feelings? 2000s makeup! Inspired by your favorite pop icons and movie characters alike, there are quite a few makeup looks from the 2000s that are making a major comeback. Ready to take a walk down memory lane and upgrade some of your old go-to looks? Below, we’re sharing 10 nostalgia-inducing makeup looks from the 2000s that are worth bringing back.

2000S MAKEUP LOOK #1: PURPLE EYE SHADOW

Want to experiment with something other than neutral eyeshadow shades? This 2000s makeup look is the perfect excuse. Purple eyeshadow received its fair share of the limelight in the 2000s, and now it’s found a place amongst 2019’s biggest makeup trends.

Step #1: Prime your eyes. Before reaching for your purple eye shadow, be sure to apply an eye shadow primer. This will allow your purple to be its most vibrant and also increase its lifespan on your eyes. Don’t have an eye primer on-hand? A dab of foundation or concealer will do the trick.

Step #2: Color your lids. Paint your lids with your favorite purple hue. We love the look of the L’Oréal Paris Infallible 24 HR Eye Shadow in Perpetual Purple for this look.

Step #3: Blend your crease. Maybe your blending skills weren’t so great back in 2002, but nowadays you know better than to leave harsh lines behind. To avoid exactly that, use a matte nude shadow, like the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Monos Eyeshadow in Mix and Matte, and a fluffy blending brush to soften the line where your purple shadow meets your crease.

Step #4: Coat your lashes. Finish your purple eye shadow look with a few coats of the L’Oréal Paris Unlimited Lash Lifting and Lengthening Washable Mascara in Blackest Black.

2000S MAKEUP LOOK #2: GLOSSY LIPS

Another 2000s makeup trend that’s making a name for itself here in 2019? Glossy lips! In case you haven’t heard, matte lipsticks are being put on the back burner this year while high-shine lip glosses are taking the spotlight.

Step #1: Moisturize your pout. Glossy lips call for a hydrated, moisturized pout. Before reaching for a lip gloss, apply a conditioning lip balm.

Step #2: Make it glossy. Apply a long-lasting lip gloss, like the L’Oréal Paris Infallible 8 HR Le Gloss. Hello, shine!

Step #3: Highlight. To take your glossy lips up a notch, pop a bit of highlighter, like the L’Oréal Paris True Match Lumi Shimmerista Highlighting Powder, onto the center of your bottom lip and cupid’s bow.

2000S MAKEUP LOOK #3: COLORFUL EYELINER

Getting bored of wearing black eyeliner every. single. day? Us too, and that’s why we’re thankful colored eyeliner is trending once again. All you have to do is pick a colorful shade of the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Last Waterproof, Up to 24HR Pencil Eyeliner, and apply it where you please for an eye-catching look. Need a suggestion? We love a pop of colorful eyeliner along the lower lash line!

2000S MAKEUP LOOK #4: ROSY CHEEKS

What about your face makeup? Well, in case you don’t remember, rosy cheeks were all the rage in the 2000s. Instead of going light on your blush, turn to a rosy hue that’ll give you a noticeable (though not obnoxious) flush, like the L’Oréal Paris True Match Blush in Rosy Outlook.

2000S MAKEUP LOOK #5: LIP LINER

Prominent lip liner may have been big in the 2000s, but we’re modifying this trend just a tad. Too harsh of a contrast between your lip liner and lipstick is a no-go in our books! Here’s what to do.

Step #1: Line your lips. When lining your lips, choose a shade that’s one to two shades darker than your lipstick of choice. For the purpose of this tutorial, use the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Lip Liner in Au Naturale. Line just slightly outside your natural lip.

Step #2: Fill in your pout. Complete your lip look by filling in the center of your lips with the L’Oréal Paris Rouge Signature, Lasting Matte Liquid Lipstick in I Create. Pucker up!

2000S MAKEUP LOOK #6: FROSTED LIPS

If you were a tween or teen in the 2000s, there’s a solid chance your first lipstick was a frosty, pale pink hue. And while we hope you’ve tossed that ancient lipstick, we’re here to tell you that frosted lips are back. Hold up, though; they might not look quite how you remember them. Rather than sporting an all-over frosted pout, give this 2000s makeup look a modern upgrade by applying your frosted lipstick of choice solely to the center of your lips. This will create a highlighted effect that’ll lead to the illusion of full lips—and who doesn’t want that?

2000S MAKEUP LOOK #7: BLUE EYESHADOW

Can you tell the 2000s were all about color? Another popular hue worn on the lids was blue. Even better, blue eyeshadow is back and here to stay in 2019. To give it a try, read our article on How to Wear Blue Eyeshadow and Eye Makeup.

2000S MAKEUP LOOK #8: GLOWING SKIN

We’ll always be fans of glowing, dewy skin. In the 2000s, face makeup was kept simple and youthful, which can be a refreshing break if you’re used to contouring and strobing every day in 2019.

Step #1: Apply foundation. To start your glowing skin look, use a foundation with a radiant finish, like the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Glow Foundation. Buff it out with the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Blend Artist Foundation Blender.

Step #2: Add some shimmer. To amp up your dewy skin, apply a glowing highlighter, like the L’Oréal Paris True Match Lumi Glow Amour Glow Boosting Drops. Pop it onto your cheekbones, cupid’s bow, and the tip of your nose.

Step #3: Set your makeup. Of course, you’ll want your face makeup to last all day—but that’s not the only reason to reach for a setting spray. The L’Oréal Paris True Match Lumi Shake & Glow Dest Mist will give your entire makeup a radiant boost while increasing the lifespan of your makeup. Say hello to an all-over glow!

2000S MAKEUP LOOK #9: BRICK RED LIPS

Skip painting the town red and focus on your lips. Aside from glossy and frosted lip looks, many women in the 2000s wore a brick red hue on their pout. Can’t you picture it now? A brick red lip, low-rise jeans, and a silk camisole top. Talk about nostalgia! We can’t help you with the ensemble, but try the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Lipcolour in Divine Wine to outfit your pout.

2000S MAKEUP LOOK #10: SHIMMERY WHITE LIDS

Last but not least, we can’t not mention shimmery white lids! And lucky for you, recreating this 2000s makeup look is simple.

Step #1: Prime your lids. Apply an eye primer to your lids to prep for your eye shadow.

Step #2: Grab your shadow. Use a shimmery white eye shadow, like the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Monos Eyeshadow in Petite Perle, to coat your lids. Then, apply a nude matte shade in your crease with a fluffy brush to diffuse any harsh lines.

Step #3: Apply mascara. As you can probably guess, you’ll want to finish your shimmery white eye shadow look with a few coats of mascara. Reach for the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Washable Mascara to do just that.
