How to Rock a Two-Toned Eye Makeup Look

septiembre 20, 2018

When it comes to eye shadow, we’re firm believers that using two shades is better than one. And luckily, two-toned eye makeup is definitely on-trend in 2018—as proven by the number of runways and ad campaigns it has graced this year. You don’t have to be a pro makeup artist to try this look yourself though. It’s actually pretty easy! Yep, two-toned eye makeup is definitely something you can do on your own—and it can add a whole lot of dimension to your overall beauty look. Want to try two-toned eye makeup for yourself? Follow our tutorial below to get in on the fun!

7 STEPS FOR GORGEOUS TWO-TONED EYE MAKEUP

In love with the two-toned trend? Us too! Follow along to learn how to apply two eye shadow colors for one pretty look. We have a feeling you’ll never want to go back to wearing just one eye shadow again!

Step 1: Choose your colors

When it comes to two-toned eye makeup, feel free to choose any shades you’d like. The key is to select a light and a dark shade that complement each other. You don’t want to pick two dark or two light shades because the whole point of two-toned eye makeup is to add depth. If you’re new to eye makeup in general, you may want to use shimmery eye shadow shades instead of matte ones because they’re easier to blend. The L'Oréal Paris Colour Riche La Palette Nude contains eye shadows in a variety of different finishes so you can play around.

Step 2: Prep your lids with an eye makeup primer

Before you start applying your eye shadows, dab an eye makeup primer onto your lids. Primer can create an even canvas for you to work on—plus, it can also help keep your shadows in place.

Step 3: Fill in your lid

You’re finally ready for shadow-y goodness! To start your two-toned eye makeup look, use a flat, dense eye shadow brush to evenly apply your lighter color onto your lid. You’ll want to apply the color from your lash line to your crease to create the base of your two-toned eye makeup look. And hear us out: There’s no reason to go overboard when it comes to applying eye shadow, especially if you’re using a sparkly shade. Make sure to only use as much shadow as you need (trust us, a little goes a long way!) and tap off any excess.

Step 4: Define your crease

In a similar fashion as a traditional smoky eye, the next step on your quest to creating a two-toned eye makeup look is to define your crease. So, pick up a fluffy crease brush and use the darker color to fill in your crease starting at your outer corner and working your way in. As far as technique goes, try swishing your brush in a windshield wiper motion along your crease. Works like a charm!

Step 5: Blend, blend, blend

Almost there! Now that you have your two shades in place, use an eye shadow blending brush to buff out any harsh lines. This can also help to give your multi-dimensional look an ombré-esque quality.

Step 6: Highlight your brow bone

Although this look is defined by being two-toned, three colors are actually necessary. Shhh, don’t tell! While your two lid colors will be the main attraction, it’s always a good idea to add a natural-looking highlight into the mix. Grab the lightest, brightest nude shade in your palette and brush it just under the outer tail of your brow. See how this step ties it all together?

Step 7: Finish your look with mascara

No statement eye is complete until you apply a coat of mascara to your lashes. A few swipes of the L'Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise™ Washable Mascara and you’ll be good to go.
