HOW TO PREP FOR YOUR SELF-TANNER
Before you apply any type of self-tanner, it’s important to prep your skin. There are a few steps you’ll want to take to create a smooth, even surface for your self-tanner.
Step #1: Shave away
Shave your legs, underarms, and any other areas with unwanted hair where you’ll be applying self-tanner. Not only will shaving create a smoother surface for your self-tanner, but now’s your last chance to get silky skin—at least for a few days—since shaving post-tanning can remove your self-tanner.
Step #2: Exfoliate
Exfoliate your body to get rid of dead skin cells that have built up on your skin’s surface. This will allow your self-tanner to adhere to your skin better and prevent blotchiness. Head over to our article, How to Exfoliate from Head to Toe, for an in-depth exfoliation routine.
Step #3: Moisturize
After you’ve shaved and exfoliated, you want to moisturize your skin. Self-tanner tends to stick to dry patches of skin, which can lead to an uneven tan. Making sure your skin is hydrated beforehand is an easy way to avoid this self-tanning pitfall.
